The best way for you to ensure that your package arrives at its final destination safely and efficiently is to pack it correctly. That can sometimes be tricky, depending on the object/s and the destination. Below are a few helpful tips to keep in mind next time you package something:
Collect all the necessary items before packing.
Before you start packing items into boxes, be sure you have plenty of the following:
- Boxes
- Package Tape
- Bubble Wrap
- Permanent Market
- Foam Packaging Peanuts
- Pair of Scissors
Tip for saving money: If you need to, substitute bubble wrap and packing peanuts with recycled newspaper.
Organized your items in a sensible way.
If you have fragile items, put them in their own box and label the box, “fragile.” You can also group together rectangular shaped items and oddly-shaped items separate from each other. Heavier objects need to be placed at the bottom. Be sure to label the top of your box from the outside so the courier knows how to place it in the truck or van. Also, wrap each item individually in newspaper or bubble wrap before placing it in the box.
Use plenty of tape.
Once your items are organized in their boxes, you’ll want to secure them in preparation for their travels. The bottom of the box should be taped already with two or three layers for added security. Once you’re ready to close the package, tape the top at each side and corner at least twice. The middle should get at least three layers of tape. This is the when buying sturdy, quality package tape is important. Don’t go for the cheap, flimsy stuff. One of the couriers worst nightmares is to be carrying your package and have its contents fall out from under it. You’ll be doing yourself and your courier a great favor!
Label your package.
As stated before, label the top and bottom of your package, if it’s not already on the box. If something is fragile, label that as well. Anything you want the courier to remember as she/he is moving your package go ahead and write it on the box. That way they can’t say they forgot!
Packing your items correctly make a world of difference in the process of delivery. Take the time to do it right and you’ll save yourself a headache.
