Spring Break Ideas for SoCal Residents

Spring Break is just around the corner, and it’s already gearing up to be an exciting and eventful year. Here at SMEX 24/7 Messenger Services, we like to plan ahead. So we’ve compiled a list fun activities available to anyone with a little bit of free time and a sense of adventure.

1. Drive-in Movie

The Mission Tiki Drive-in Theatre in Montclair, CA has been around since the mid 1950s. After a recent renovation it has grown to four screens, allowing for a diverse collection of new films to be enjoyed from the comfort of your car. And their concession stand offers an array of snacks and meals. The theatre is kid-friendly with its tiki hut decor; and the prices are very affordable. Toss the kids in the car and drive up to Montclair for an evening; or, drop them with a babysitter to get some needed alone time with your spouse. You won’t regret it.

2. Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

Open Tuesday through Sunday, this aquarium has more than a spectacular view and rich diversity of local sea life; it also is full of fascinating information about marine life. Equipped with an Exploration Center and Aquatic Nursery, visitors of all ages can enjoy a day trip to the accessible and informative CMA.

3. California Science Center

Here’s another option if you’re looking for a fun, interactive way to spend some time learning about science. Located in the heart of Los Angeles, California Science Center includes exhibits about space, the oceans, and our planet. It even has IMAX! Best news is that general admission is free. They do require reservations on weekends, though. So plan your trip early. This is another that’s great for all ages.

4. The Griffith Park Train Rides

This is a shoutout to all the little ones. We know they aren’t reading this, but their parents might be! Soaking in the sun at Griffith Park is a great way to spend an afternoon–SoCal natives know that. But you may not know about the train rides that are available everyday in the park for children of all ages. And yes, parents, you can ride along with your wee tot and enjoy the scenery as well. If you’ve been cooped up in the house, take the kids on a fun (and affordable) adventure in Griffith Park.

5. Dana Point Festival of Whales

South of Laguna Beach, Dana Point is a gorgeous coastal area filled with hiking trails, green lawns, a yacht harbor, and beach and cliff areas that provide breathtaking views. Each year they host the famous Festival of Whales in celebration of the annual migration of the California Gray Whale. They are serious about their eco-friendly attitudes, asking visitors to be mindful of the recycle bins nearby. The festival runs March 4-5 & 11-12 this year. Visit their website for more information on their booths and attractions:

Don’t let Spring Break sneak by this year without taking some time to celebrate life and family. Whether it’s a day trip to a museum, a long overdue date night or short stay in a bed & breakfast in hopes of catching sight of a magnificent California Gray Whale, give yourself some deserved family time away from the hustle and bustle of running a business. And as always, rely on SMEX 24/7 for around the clock courier services. Cheers!
